The Department
The Learning Commons is a hub of student, faculty and staff services. Included in this area are traditional library services, the Academic Success Centre for student support in writing, math and other subject areas;
Accessibility Services for students, and the Testing Centre for both external clients and future Northwestern Polytechnic students. We are an area that encourages growth, learning and exploration for those who seek our support and of each other.

The Role
The Accommodated Exam Support Worker is a casual position that will work with the Learning Commons’ Accessibility Services Team to provide exam accommodations to eligible students.

The Accommodated Exam Support Worker’s duties will include setting up the exam space to meet the needs of one or more students while maintaining an environment that ensures exam integrity. They will be required to proctor and/or read and/or scribe for the duration of the exam sitting and to ensure prompt delivery of the completed exam to the Accessibility Services Office.

They must adhere to the instructions for each exam provided by Accessibility Services staff and ensure that students understand and comply with them.

This position is a temporary casual appointment for up to 17.5 hours/week. Weekly hours are not guaranteed and will vary depending on the needs of eligible students. Availability to work a variety of shifts any day—Monday through Friday—between 7 am and 5 pm is required, based on student needs. During Final Exam periods, evening and Saturday availability is also required.

Job Requirements

Minimum qualifications:

High school diploma.

Current Northwestern Polytechnic students are not eligible.

Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

Must be able to provide services to students in person at the assigned campus location.

Strong commitment to assisting students with disabilities and maintaining the integrity of exams.

Flexibility in hours and days of work.

Fluency and excellent command of the English language, including spelling, grammar, and pronunciation.

Comfortable reading aloud in a clear, level‑pitched manner.

Neat and legible handwriting and experience using Microsoft Word.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to interact with a diverse population of students, especially individuals with varied and multiple disabilities/learning needs.
