SUBSTITUTE LIBRARY TECHNICIAN COMPETITION NUMBER: C

Applications will be accepted until suitable candidates are found.

Substitute Library Technicians provide coverage for planned and unplanned absences of school-based Library Technicians. Hours vary depending on Division needs.

Hourly Rate: $20.45 per hour plus vacation pay.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Maintain library collections, including cataloguing, processing, shelving, repairing, and updating materials.
  • Manage library circulation activities, patron records, and inventory of resources.
  • Assist students and staff in locating library materials, reference information, and educational resources.
  • Support the use of library technology and provide basic training on library systems and equipment.
  • Coordinate interlibrary loans and resource sharing as required.
  • Order, receive, and prepare new library materials for circulation.
  • Maintain library statistics, records, and correspondence.
  • Ensure the learning commons remains organized, welcoming, and conducive to learning.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, staff, and volunteers using the library.
  • Promote literacy initiatives and library-related events within the school.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Two-year diploma in Library Technology and a minimum of one year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer technology (Windows, Internet, Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of Maker Space technology and other learning commons technologies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to work with a variety of people in a team environment, are essential.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative as well as follow direction.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with library experience and/or Destiny training.

When filling temporary contracts within the Division, priority consideration is given to individuals currently working as Substitute Library Technicians.
