Controller

Grande Prairie based client is seeking an experienced to help oversee all financial functions—including accounting, payroll, AP/AR, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting—while establishing financial policies, controls, and systems to ensure compliance. A key focus is driving automation and process improvements through technology, process mapping, and strengthened internal controls across operations. The role will report directly to the CFO.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:
  • Lead daily Finance operations and supervise accounting, reporting, and budgeting staff.
  • Establish and maintain financial policies, procedures, and strong internal controls compliant with ASPE and CRA.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end processes, ensuring accurate, timely reporting and coordination with external accountants.
  • Develop and deliver financial reports, KPIs, and dashboards to support executive decision-making.
  • Manage annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, variance analysis, and expense control.
  • Analyze financial performance, including costs, variances, risks, and project-level results.
  • Prepare lender reporting, monitor debt covenants, and support financing activities with the CFO.
  • Ensure compliance with evolving financial regulations and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to align budgeting, forecasting, and operational changes.
  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate Finance team members while driving process improvement.
  • Your strengths include:
  • CPA designation required.
  • Leadership experience required and minimum 5 years of industry experience.
  • Strong background in accounting systems, budgeting, internal controls, planning, and asset management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Axon, Ceridian Dayforce, and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with system integration, data analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Effective communicator with solid teamwork, relationship‑building, and people‑management abilities.
  • Ability to stay calm and effective in high-pressure situations, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience creating and managing budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
