Position: Contract Operator AB

The Opportunity

Tidewater has an immediate opening for a Contract Operator. This is a full-time contract position based out of the Grand Prairie, Alberta - Valhalla Field and Battery facility. The position will be expected to work 10-hour shifts 8on/6off. The Contract Operator will be responsible for the safe and competent operation of the facilities and wells assigned, EH&S, production, and operations. While maintaining a positive attitude, he/she will safely and effectively carry out duties, recognizing the objective is to keep the best interests of the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Abide by the terms of employment in the EH&S Policy Manuals; ensure safety and environmental standards are adhered to and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Strive to make the company more profitable by:
    • Minimizing operating costs
    • Maximizing production
    • Developing and proposing innovative plans to improve efficiency of production operations
  • Take all appropriate measures to prevent harm to people, wells, equipment, environment, and property
  • Routine inspection and adjustment of assigned facilities and wells, including monitoring pressures, levels, and temperatures and adjusting as required
  • Estimate daily volumes to sales from gas measurement devices
  • Record production levels daily and forward to the appropriate production accounting clerk for entry into production accounting software
  • Accurate test measurement of gas, condensate/oil and water production daily for all assigned wells, including:
    • Meter reading and recording
    • Fluid sample collection and water cut determination
    • Calculate tested well gas, condensate/oil and water production
  • Read and record tubing, annulus and separator pressures; record well status and daily well information
  • Arrange or perform regular preventative maintenance of all equipment including facilities, piping/pressure vessels and rotating equipment
  • In the event of a production interruption, adjust the flow of appropriate wells as agreed by the Area Foreman
  • Inform/instruct affected third parties of the production interruption
  • After the production interruption, return wells to maximum allowable rates in a timely manner
  • Notify the marketing department and Pipeline Company of the results of the production interruption
  • Perform routine maintenance and adjustments to all facilities as required
  • Schedule/supervise routine minor well maintenance with contract equipment as directed
  • Monitor chemical inventories and ensure adequate well chemical treatment
  • Monitor and adjust line heaters for optimum performance
  • Routine de-waxing of pipelines with mechanical pigs
  • Pressure test bottom hole pumps and wellheads; check settings of wellhead high-pressure shut downs and record appropriately
  • Make daily verbal reports to the Area Foreman including operational status and problems
  • Clean and maintain the vehicle, tools and equipment
  • Identify hazards and take appropriate actions to remove the hazard
  • Start all wells after workover or pump change
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Area Foreman or Superintendent
  • Use a variety of computer-based programs effectively and learn as programs evolve, including but not limited to:
    Foxit Phantom PDF, PVR, Carbon Hub, Maximo, Converge and ABADATA, Microsoft Office tools, VNC Viewer, ISNetworld, CNTRL, Watchdog, Adobe Workfront, CMDS
Ideal Candidate
  • 5+ years of oilfield experience
  • Experience with oil battery, pumpjack, and compression
  • Reliable with good attention to detail
  • Able to work long hours if required
  • Understand and comply with EHS policies and procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve production and reliability
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage a demanding workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-starter who can work independently without supervision
  • Good communication and decision-making skills with problem-solving abilities
  • Mechanical aptitude is an asset; CMDS profile is also an asset
  • Minimal ticket requirements: TDG, WHMIS, H2S, First Aid
