Duties

  • Provide nursing care in Care Delivery Units (primary care).
  • Provide occupational health services in Canadian Forces Recruiting Centres.
  • Cover alternate setting (CDU or CFRC) as needed.
  • Initiate and follow the Nursing Process.
  • Assess the health and well‑being of patients.
  • Perform nursing interventions.

Intent of the process

The immediate need of this process is to fill three (3) positions on an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Edmonton, Vancouver and London. A pool of candidates may be established through this process and may be used to staff identical or similar positions at the Department of National Defence.

  • Willing and able to work occasional overtime

You need (essential for the job)
  • Education: Graduation with a post‑secondary diploma from an approved practical nurse program. Internationally educated nurses must provide a National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS) Advisory Report that states that the nursing education received is assessed as being comparable to Canadian Entry to Practice Competencies.
  • Occupational Certification: Active registration as a Licensed or Registered Practical Nurse in the province or territory of employment with no current license suspensions or condition in any other jurisdiction.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years recent experience as a Licensed or Registered Practical Nurse providing nursing care to adults in an acute care, primary care, or community health setting. Recent experience conducting health assessments, developing nursing care plans, and providing necessary interventions within the past five years.
  • Competencies: Demonstrating integrity and respect;

    Working effectively with others;
    Showing initiative and being action oriented;
    Communication.

    Education:

    Additional nursing certification relevant to the area of employment, including wound care or occupational health.
  • Asset Experiences: Five years experience working in a Primary Care, Public or Community Health, or Occupational Health environment within the last ten years. Experience delivering patient care in a multidisciplinary team, including in partnership with external organizations.
