Social Worker

Competition Number: I2627-01

Permanent, Full‑time (35 hours per week) | Effective August 2026

Responsibilities
  • Member of the GPPSD Student Services providing wraparound services to students and working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including Directors, School Administrators, teachers, mental health therapists, guidance counsellors, etc.
  • Provide comprehensive risk assessment, develop safety plans, and ensure follow‑up care for students experiencing suicidal ideations or other self‑harm behaviors.
  • Provide emergent care and crisis intervention to those in immediate need.
  • Provide family‑informed care and support to families.
  • Advocate for students’ needs with teachers, administrators, parents and other professionals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a Social Worker, preference for experience in an educational context.
  • Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (RSW).
  • Extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), solution‑focused therapy and working with students exposed to trauma.

  • Ability to respond to changing priorities and adapt to new directions as assigned.

  • Highly effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Ability to manage stress and maintain confidentiality as standard practice.
  • Proficiency in current technologies such as word processing software, database systems, Windows programming, e‑mail, and Internet applications.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within the Grande Prairie Public School Division with students, parents, community members and external groups such as government agencies.
  • Desire and ability to engage in continuing education and professional development.

A current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check must be provided as a condition of employment.
