Our Transit Department is looking for a dedicated Casual Utility Worker to join the team.
The Opportunity   The purpose of the Transit Utility Worker is to ensure that the fleet is fully prepared for service and appropriately stored overnight. To assist the maintenance department with the upkeep of the fleet, bus garage and operations facilities.
Responsibilities   All vehicles completely fueled and fluids topped, ready for service
Vehicle interior and exterior cleaned and detailed
Maintain records of bus fueling
Vehicle emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, body-fluid kit, first aid kit) fully stocked and functional
Vehicles parked according to facility parking plan
Any fleet damage documented and communicated to the manager
Maintain the fuel station in a clean condition and immediately contain and report any spills
Work area maintained according to all OSHA and EPA regulations
Garage area cleaned, mopped and trash disposed
Swap full fareboxes for empty fareboxes twice per month
Assist maintenance staff and manager as needed
Assign buses for the next day following a pre-developed format

You Bring   Ability to learn new skills and abilities relative to the maintenance of bus equipment
Ability to read and understand documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, etc.
Ability to understand and follow safety rules, work rules and company procedures
Ability to perform quality work efficiently with minimal supervision
Ability to work flexible shifts, schedules (including night shifts), and overtime
Ability to work independently, and with other employees, without requiring assistance from, or disturbing the work of others, while in a team environment
Ability to complete tasks within a specified period
Must be able to effectively change tasks at a moment's notice when the situation requires
Ability to read, understand and interpret equipment repair manuals relative to maintenance, repair and troubleshooting
Ability to accept constructive criticism
Visual acuity and hearing required
Ability to hear, interpret and orally transmit clear accurate directions using a two‑way radio required
Ability to occasionally drive a company vehicle during an emergency road call
Qualifications, Education & Experience Required   High School Diploma or GED
Possess valid class 3 driver’s license and clean driving record for previous three years
Possess valid air brakes (Q) Endorsement
Ability to learn to safely operate transit buses
Safety footwear is required

Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, loud noise, moving buses and vehicles, and to cleaning chemicals and vapours
Regular exposure to shop elements such as dust, noise, oils, greases, solvents, etc.
Exposure to potential accidents that may result in serious injury or fatality
Physical Demands / Requirements   Standing, walking, sitting, lifting (weight 50 lbs.), heaviest weight lifted (50 lbs.), carrying (weight 50 lbs.), heaviest weight carried (50 lbs.), pushing/pulling, weight pushed/pulled (50 lbs.), climbing, balancing, bending/stoop, crawling, reaching, reach above shoulder, work above shoulder, walk on uneven ground, fine manipulation, gross manipulation, simple grasping, power grip, hand twisting, twisting of body, kneeling and crouching.
