The Quality Engineer, under the general direction of the Corporate Director of Quality, ensures product quality through proactive means and prevents recurrence of identified quality problems through corrective action.
This is an on-site position based at Peterson Manufacturing’s corporate offices in Grandview, MO.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPERVISION, REPORTING, AND INTERFACE
Position reports to the Corporate Director of Quality and works directly with other members of the Quality Department, Production Supervisors, Sales, and Engineers. The Quality Engineer also collaborates with customers, other associates, and management teams within the Peterson Manufacturing organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participating in new product sampling, including solicitation of feedback and approval from the customer on first-run parts using the AIAG PPAP guidelines
- Verify process capability using statistical analysis to establish visual and measurement criteria for first piece and in-process inspection
- Working with customers to gain better understanding of customer needs and to represent Peterson’s interests in quality by answering NCM (non-conforming material) and CA (corrective action) requests
- Leading the investigation into quality problems with suppliers through purchasing
- Troubleshooting production non-conformances with engineering departments when problems occur/recur
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues.
- Conducting follow-up investigations to determine the effectiveness of corrective actions
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Ability to plan and perform work with limited supervision
- Monitor and analyze quality metrics to identify trends and drive improvements
- Ability to communicate in an objective, professional manner with customers, vendors, and fellow employees
- Ability to apply GD&T principals when reviewing prints and validate dimensional and performance data using a variety of tools and techniques on a wide range of materials
- Willingness to travel occasionally required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working with PPAP using AIAG PPAP guidelines
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.)
ENVIRONMENT
- Duties are performed indoors at the corporate offices in Grandview, MO.
- Must be able to regularly walk the length of the entire campus in a timely manner
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, use stairs to access offices on other floors of the building, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer printer, and phone.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others (internal and external) who may have various inquiries, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
