Job Description

This role suits an experienced Journeyman Electrician with a strong focus on HVAC-R and building automation systems who is ready to grow into a leadership position. You will install, troubleshoot, and maintain the electrical components of HVAC systems and related controls in commercial and industrial buildings. The position begins as a hands-on installer on a project team and progresses into a foreman role, where you will independently run projects and mentor apprentices while ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficient installations.

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints and plans to lay out and install the electrical side of HVAC systems and building automation controls.
• Install electrical power, communications, lighting, control systems, and security systems for commercial and industrial buildings.
• Work as part of an installation team on building automation and HVAC-R projects, then transition into a leadership role overseeing project execution.
• Inspect electrical equipment and systems, identify issues, and perform troubleshooting to ensure proper operation and system reliability.
• Plan and coordinate electrical installations for HVAC systems, including conduit routing, wiring, terminations, and panel work.
• Use design and control platforms such as AutoCAD and building automation tools (including systems like Menta, Vista, Tridium, and Schneider) to understand and support system layouts and configurations.
• Run projects independently, including organizing materials, scheduling tasks, and ensuring work meets codes, standards, and customer expectations.
• Mentor and guide apprentices and less experienced electricians, providing on-the-job training and promoting safe work practices.
• Collaborate with HVAC and building automation teams to integrate electrical components with mechanical systems and control strategies.
• Travel to job sites within approximately a one-hour radius of Grand Rapids/Grandville, with occasional potential for overnight travel as project needs evolve.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including as-built updates, system changes, and service notes.
• Adhere to all safety policies, electrical codes, and industry best practices while maintaining a clean and organized job site.

Essential Skills

• Valid Journeyman Electrician card.
• Journeyman-level experience installing and servicing electrical systems in commercial and industrial environments.
• Previous experience with HVAC and building automation systems, including HVAC-R-focused electrical work.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and construction documents to plan and execute installations.
• Proven ability to run projects independently, including planning, coordinating, and completing work with minimal supervision.
• Hands-on experience installing electrical power, conduit, communications, lighting, control systems, and security systems.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and control systems related to HVAC and building automation.
• Familiarity with platforms and tools such as AutoCAD and building automation systems like Menta, Vista, Tridium, and Schneider.
• Experience working with automation systems and controls, including Honeywell-based solutions.
• Valid drivers license and ability to travel to multiple job sites within a one-hour radius.
• Ability to meet pre-employment requirements.
