HSE Manager

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to support a major EPC contract based in Grangemouth. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity operating under a hybrid working arrangement, with three days per week based at the office/site location and two days working remotely.

Key Responsibilities Project Support
  • Act as the HSE representative at project level, providing professional HSE support and advice to project teams, clients, contractors and vendors.
  • Support Project Management teams in the development, planning and implementation of HSE objectives in line with contractual requirements.
  • Ensure HSE considerations are integrated into all phases of project delivery.
Compliance, Reporting & Collaboration
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, external agencies and relevant industry organisations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable HSE legislation, regulations and client standards.
  • Gather, analyse and report HSE performance statistics on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Monitor adherence to HSE policies, procedures and management systems.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practice to support continual improvement.
Risk Assessment & Management
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, inspections and audits to identify potential hazards.
  • Develop and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate risk.
  • Support project teams in managing operational and workplace risks effectively.
Audits & Incident Investigation
  • Develop and execute annual HSE audit programmes in line with business and contractual requirements.
  • Lead investigations into incidents, near misses and non-conformances to identify root causes.
  • Ensure timely reporting, investigation and close-out of HSE incidents.
  • Produce detailed incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor and verify the effectiveness of implemented actions.
Safety Culture & Engagement
  • Ensure safety alerts, lessons learned, toolbox talks and HSE bulletins are communicated effectively across the project.
  • Develop and implement HSE improvement plans where required.
  • Ensure all personnel receive appropriate HSE induction training and understand relevant management systems and procedures.
  • Promote a proactive HSE culture that encourages engagement, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Support behavioural safety initiatives and encourage workforce participation in HSE activities.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure professional development activities and competency requirements are maintained and completed as required.
  • Support compliance with the organisation's integrated management system.
  • Ensure adherence to quality, health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a strong commitment to HSE excellence.
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours and practices and promote safe working standards.
  • Ensure risk management and control measures are effectively applied to support safe design, operation and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct performance reviews for direct reports where applicable.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures and systems.
Candidate Requirements Essential
  • Significant experience in an HSE leadership role within the energy, engineering, EPC, petrochemical, industrial or related sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK HSE legislation and industry best practice.
  • Experience conducting audits, risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders and drive a positive safety culture.
