Driver Training Instructor

Are you an experienced HGV driver with a passion for safety, training and developing others
?

We’re looking for an Driver Training Instructor to join our team in Grangemouth. This is an exciting opportunity to use your technical driving expertise and experience to help develop our drivers, promote a strong safety culture and ensure our people have the skills and knowledge they need to operate safely and effectively.

You’ll play a key role in delivering and developing driver training across the region, working closely with drivers, Transport Managers and our Driver Training & Compliance Manager. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to national driver training initiatives and help shape the future of driver development at Calor.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for managing and delivering a wide range of driver training activities, including:

  • Delivering Driver CPC, Calor Gas, practical and classroom-based training to new and existing drivers.
  • Conducting driver assessments and supporting the development of driver assessors.
  • Coaching and mentoring drivers to improve safety, technical capability and driving standards.
  • Designing, developing and updating driver training courses and materials to meet Calor and industry legislation.
  • Developing bespoke training solutions to meet local and business requirements.
  • Monitoring driver compliance, including tachograph infringements, and working with Transport Managers and Transport Controllers to address areas of non-compliance.
  • Maintaining accurate driver training records and files and carrying out regular audits.
  • Supporting the national driver apprenticeship programme and monitoring apprentice development.
  • Working with the Driver Training and Compliance Manager on the development of Driver CPC training programmes.
  • Providing specialist technical and safety guidance to drivers and Transport Managers.
  • Sharing best practice through relevant meetings and national working groups.
  • Supporting incident investigations and identifying appropriate training interventions where required.
  • Deputising for the Driver Training and Compliance Manager when required.
What you’ll bring

We’re looking for an experienced HGV driver with a CAT C+E driving licence who is passionate about safety and developing others.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Strong knowledge of transport legislation, including drivers’ hours, tachographs and DVSA requirements.
  • A positive and proactive approach to safety, with the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours and lead by example.
  • The ability to design, plan and deliver engaging classroom, practical and remote training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with drivers, colleagues, Transport Managers and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and administration skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and respond quickly to changing business requirements.
  • A professional and conscientious approach, with high personal standards and a genuine desire to develop others.
Desirable qualifications and experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Level 3 Education and Training qualification, or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards one.
  • Previous experience within the LPG industry

  • Level 3 Manager CPC (National/International) qualification in Road Haulage.
  • Knowledge of Operator Licensing and Workshop Standards.
  • Dangerous Goods/ADR qualification and knowledge of relevant regulations.
