Job Title: Marine Manager

Location: Port of Grangemouth - with travel to Leith & other Scottish ports

Hours: 35 hour contract
- Monday-Thursday , Friday  with some flexibility

Compensation: £50,000-£55,000

As Marine Manager, you will lead the day to day management of the Marine team at the Port of Grangemouth, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels. Working closely with Port Operations and Forth and Tay Navigation Service (FTNS), you will plan, coordinate and oversee marine activities, ensuring all shipping movements are conducted safely, efficiently and in full compliance with relevant legislation, harbour authority requirements and Company policies.

• Manage the day to day Marine operations at the Port of Grangemouth and their defined seaward approaches
• Working with Grangemouth Operations, ensure that proposed vessel locations and arrival times are within Marine Guidelines, having due regard to weather conditions, tides, size and nature of vessel and communicate primarily with FTNS but also as required agents, pilots and ship masters, on a continually operating schedule to produce the safe and orderly transit of vessels. Work with FTNS on cruise vessel calls to Leith and to Newhaven
• Attend meetings with port users, local stakeholders and customers as required
• Managing Marine staff and Marine assets to ensure safe and efficient operation
• First responder and on scene commander for oil spill and emergency situations within your area
• Manage 3rd party Marine contractors working within your area of responsibility ensuring all RAMs are reviewed and approved
• Working with Conservancy teams, ensure depths of water are maintained at the required depths, Ruling depths are published and safe UKC maintained
• Assist Harbour Master and carry out any tasks delegated
• Ensure all PMSC Procedures and Risk Assessments are reviewed in line with standards set
• Notify HM of any non-standard marine matters as per Marine Safety Code
• Maintain Emergency Plans, plan and conduct drills/exercises. Play an active role in the emergency management team as defined within the Port and Marine emergency plans
• Working with CHM and Port management on the marine element of any project work
• Be part of and assist wider Forth Ports Scotland Marine Management Team as required
• Conduct marine accident and near miss investigations on behalf of the Harbour Master for port of Grangemouth and associated estuary approaches
• Working through peak workloads and high volumes of traffic
• The coverage required is normally day work however due to the nature of ports there may be a requirement from time to time to work weekends or evenings, especially in the event of an emergency
• Ensure that all equipment is maintained to the required statutory standards, functioning correctly and then managing to work with / through the problem whilst reporting equipment malfunctions
• Assisting the central marine team in reviewing and updating risk assessments and procedures as required for the area of jurisdiction
• Where necessary, in the event of unplanned sickness absence, may be required to provide cover at other Ports in Forth and Tay
• Reporting of equipment failure to appropriate engineer/technician
• Carrying out face to face audits with internal and external parties in order to monitor compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code
• General administrative duties associated with daily operations, such as Port regulations, filing, e-mail monitoring, vessel scheduling
• The job holder will be given tasks and duties by the HM but will be expected to work largely unsupervised
