Position Summary
The Circulating OR Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia, and the surgical team.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare operating rooms, equipment, and supplies prior to surgical procedures
Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site; conduct time-outs
Coordinate patient care and workflow throughout the surgical process
Assist with patient positioning, transport, and comfort
Maintain a safe, sterile, and organized operating environment
Document nursing care, medications, and procedures accurately in the EMR
Administer medications and carry out physician orders per policy
Monitor patient condition and report changes to the surgical team
Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines
Support pre-op and post-op areas as needed
Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
Associate’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
Minimum 2 year of Operating Room or perioperative nursing experience preferred
Current BLS certification (ACLS/PALS preferred depending on facility)
Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, and OR protocols
Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
Preferred Experience
Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
Familiarity with orthopedic, general, or specialty surgical procedures
Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
