Overview
HVAC Mechanic (BHS) role at Beacon Health System. This position reports to the Manager, Facilities Services and is responsible for preventive maintenance, repair, alteration, and modification of building systems and equipment. The role may serve in a secondary capacity as Refrigeration Technician, Pump/Motors/Compressor Technician, among others. Responds to corrective maintenance under supervision as instructed.
Responsibilities- Maintain equipment and facility systems in proper working condition by responding to calls related to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for Beacon-owned/leased properties, tenants, and Facility Engineering staff.
- Collaborate with electrical/mechanical engineers and management on recommendations for expansion, compatibility, and installation of systems in new structures and upgrade projects.
- Operate and monitor systems and equipment such as Building Energy Management Systems, high pressure boilers, and large and small HVAC systems (centrifugal chillers, refrigeration, pneumatics, etc.).
- Perform preventive maintenance, tests, and inspections of systems and equipment using applicable measurement devices.
- Provide training to Facility Engineering staff, hospital team members, and physicians on safe use of equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment, determine malfunction types, obtain materials and tools, perform repairs, and test for proper operation.
- Maintain routine records of inspections, repairs, service requests, and time/material expended.
- Perform job functions in accordance with departmental safety and operational procedures.
- Ensure work complies with codes and accreditation requirements.
- Ensure contractors handling CFCs are certified and that manuals/procedures are current and compliant with governing agencies.
- Conduct tours of areas under construction and verify subcontractor licenses and bonding where required.
- Support, train, and perform functions of other Facility staff as needed, including inspecting equipment and operating equipment as directed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; continuous education related to HVAC preferred.
- Three to five years of related on-the-job experience in a large/complex commercial/institutional building; knowledge of HVAC, basic electricity, basic plumbing, energy management control systems, and pneumatic control systems; administrative access to energy management systems preferred.
- Current CFC certification required (or obtainable within 1–2 years after hire).
- Mechanical ability to Repair on a variety of hospital equipment using hand and power tools; computer skills to manage and program energy management systems; shop mathematics and blueprint reading skills.
- Ability to perform repairs on hospital equipment; strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with energy management control systems and related computer tools.
- Demonstrates courteous, cooperative relations with hospital staff and public; analytical ability to interpret data and diagnose problems.
- May be exposed to fumes, extreme temperatures, dust, noise, electrical hazards, or gases.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders/steps, and stand or walk for extended periods.
