Medical-Surgical nursing is often called the foundation of nursing and for good reason.
During your practicum, you’ll care for patients with a wide range of diagnoses while developing the clinical judgment and confidence employers value most. You’ll gain experience managing multiple patient needs, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and delivering compassionate, evidence-based care.
The skills you develop in Medical-Surgical nursing prepare you for future opportunities throughout Mercy. Many of Mercy’s clinical leaders and specialty nurses began their careers in Medical-Surgical nursing.
Eligibility & Program Requirements- Be enrolled in the final semester of an accredited RN or LPN nursing program (December 2026 Grad).
- Complete their senior practicum within Mercy Hospital St. Louis Medical-Surgical Service Line.
- Accept a bedside nursing position with Mercy upon graduation.
- Commit to a minimum six-month employment agreement following graduation.
Students are encouraged to complete their practicum on the unit where they hope to begin their nursing career.
