Interim Residence Life Educator – Student Activities Board
Position Summary: The Residence Life Educator (RLE) is a live‑in, professional educator whose primary responsibility is to deliver a student‑development focused curriculum and co‑curriculum that supports the University’s mission while achieving undergraduate learning outcomes. The RLE educates students to impact their intellectual, spiritual and personal development by teaching foundations for learning, leadership competencies, self‑awareness, faith development and social responsibility. The RLE actively promotes a safe living‑learning environment and is responsible for recruitment, selection, teaching, supervision, assessment of learning and evaluation of 9–12 undergraduate student staff members, administration of up to 385 residents in residential spaces, and serving as an active member of the Residence Life team.

- Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula and co‑curricula for students in alignment with Messiah University undergraduate learning outcomes and Student Success and Engagement Educational Plans.
- Develop knowledge and skills common to liberal arts education such as research, analysis, reflection and communication.
- Develop knowledge common to the liberal arts in the fields of arts and sciences, humanities, natural and social sciences.
- Develop informed and mature convictions about Christian faith and practice.
- Gain an awareness of identity, character and vocational calling.
- Demonstrate a commitment to service, reconciliation, and justice, and teach students to respond ethically to a diverse, interdependent world.
- Deliver curricula and co‑curricula in daily sessions with undergraduates and in related residential programming.
- Communicate, promote, and hold students accountable to Messiah University community standards.
- Facilitate educational conduct meetings for students who violate the Code of Conduct.
- Prepare and deliver Resident Assistant leadership education aligned with student leadership curriculum.
- Implement and perform assessment of curricula and staff to ensure educational effectiveness and progress on student learning outcomes.
- Academically advise undeclared students.
- Keep current in the Student Development field through continuous study and professional engagement.
- Recruit and select student staff in collaboration with colleagues.
- Facilitate opening and closing of residence halls.
- Actively contribute to Residence Life and SSE Divisional meetings.
- Maintain a minimum of 5 office hours per week.
- Foster safe, hospitable, holistic living‑learning environments that promote belonging for all students.
- Partner with campus‑wide retention efforts and track student progress through campus systems.
- Respond to student crises as required.
- Serve on the On‑Call Response rotation in cooperation with Safety, Counseling, and Medical staff.
- Make intentional efforts to know residents and complete special tasks assigned by the Director of Residence Life.
- Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling or related field required.
- 1 year of post‑undergraduate residence life experience required.
- Ability to see student learning as central to Residence Life and engage students to meet learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated mastery of student development subject matter.
- Commitment to delivering education in curricular and co‑curricular contexts.
- Creative pedagogical skills to achieve undergraduate learning outcomes.
- Commitment to service, reconciliation, justice, and ethical responsiveness in a diverse community.
- Experience in teaching, curriculum development, and assessment.
- Knowledge of stages of student development and holistic education.
