System Support Specialist

The System Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining information systems in support of core organizational functions, including installation, modification and/or repair of hardware and software systems. Communicates on a regular basis with County departments regarding systems upgrades, problem resolution, and ease of use issues. The position requires independent judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to identify, communicate, and resolve systems issues in order to maximize the effectiveness of Information Technology systems.

Work is performed under the direction of the Information Technology Program Director who reviews work primarily on the basis of results attained and direct feedback from user departments.

• Performs routine and emergency maintenance and repair on computers, peripherals and network equipment to provide stable computer systems to end users.
• Develops internal documentation.
• Continually keeps up with current trends in the information technology field.
• Assembles, configures and deploys computers, accessories and/or network equipment.
• Maintains VOIP System end points and software and assists in cell phone use and applications.
• Maintains end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
• Assists with the maintenance of County website by monitoring, updating, and resolving operating issues.
• Loads, troubleshoots, tests, and updates software packages; i.e., operating systems, commercial applications, word processing and spreadsheet programs.
• Assists and/or trains individuals or groups of users in the use of software applications. Develops user instruction manuals as applicable.
• Prepares non-functioning or decommissioned equipment for disposal.
• Adheres to confidentiality provisions/regulations including but not limited to SB583 Oregon Identity Theft Protection Act, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard), GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. The position requires a working knowledge of computer/network operating systems and applications, and related peripheral equipment. The ability to establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with other County workers and the public is required.

Two (2) years of progressively responsible network, computer operations and applications, and programming and systems experience; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above described duties.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Oregon State Drivers’ License.

Conviction of a crime will not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. Must pass and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance.
