Summary
Responsible for the preparation and service of food and dietary needs of patients, staff, and visitors. Prepares and delivers food trays to patients. Maintain high standards of sanitation.
Essential Functions- Prepares meals for patient and cafeteria visitors according to the menu and prescribed standards of preparation, including regular and special diets.
- Responsible for proper cleaning of equipment, such as ovens, stoves, mixers, and dishes, upon completion of the shift.
- Sets up the hot food line, ensuring proper preparation of hot and cold foods, and serves portions according to prescribed amounts.
- Ensures leftover foods are properly stored, labeled, and dated according to department policy and regulatory standards.
- Assists with proper check‑in and storage of deliveries, rotating stock according to first‑in/first‑out processes.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age‑appropriate nutrition and the ability to make acceptable substitutions on therapeutic diets.
- Attends department meetings and training required by the hospital and dietary department.

- Experience in commercial or hospital food service.
- Demonstrate proper sanitation and food handling techniques.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- College degree preferred.
- Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check, reference checks, and a post‑offer drug screen.
- Must be employment eligible as verified by the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Government Services Administration (GSA).
- Tuberculin screening required annually.
- Hospital required vaccinations.
- Hospital required competencies.
- Typical office and/or patient care, acute care hospital environment.
- Must be able to travel locally between facilities and within the surrounding community.
- Occasional exposure to minimal physical risk.
