Electrical Lighting Designer II

What you’ll do:
  • Utilize visual lighting software and energy codes (such as the International Energy Conservation Code and Title 24) to create lighting designs.
  • Mark up branch circuit lighting and power plans and fill in panel board schedules with moderate oversight.
  • Perform Energy Code calculations, documentation, and local jurisdiction energy requirements with little supervision.
  • Apply and perform Rosendin standards for wire sizing, transformer feeders, and protection from published schedules.
  • Calculate power loads, size feeders, and determine the estimated demand load summary for a distribution system under the direction of a Senior Designer or an Engineer.
  • Direct and coordinate signal and low voltage subcontractors with other trades, such as architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, vertical transportation, kitchen equipment, and OFCI systems.
  • Create details as required to define installation for construction.
  • Provide the design lead function for small jobs.
  • Ability to review manufacturer submittals for electrical characteristics.
  • Layout Electrical Room, including clearances, with minimal oversight.
  • The duties and responsibilities describe the position's general nature and scope of work. This is a partial listing; other responsibilities will be assigned based on the position's role within the business unit.
What you’ll need to be successful:
  • Strong visual lighting software experience and understanding of energy codes (such as the International Energy Conservation Code and Title 24), including NFPA code requirements such as outlined in NEC and NFPA 101.
  • Knowledge of central battery inverters and battery backups in individual fixtures.
  • Strong understanding of requirements for powering emergency lighting and lighting controls (such as Wattstopper).
  • Ability to do lighting fixture selection while including owners and architects for "architectural" front‑of‑house type lighting.
  • Site lighting experience including verification of light levels and consideration for issues such as light pollution.
  • Experience in data centers preferred but not absolutely required.
What you bring to us:
  • Some college or technical training in electrical engineering or architectural engineering related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Designer I.
  • Can be a combination of educations, training, and relevant experience.
Travel:
  • Up to 15% (does not include local field visits).
Working conditions:
  • General work environment – sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
  • Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite.

  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
