Intensive Care Unit: SEASONAL (13 WEEKS)

Our Intensive Care Unit is a fast-paced environment that includes high acuity patients. 13‑week seasonal assignment, 7pm‑7am shift. 1:2 patient ratio with 20 beds, Level II Trauma, Primary Stroke Center, & 24/7 Intensivist coverage.

Patient Population

Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Neuro, Cardiac.

Requirements
  • Required:

    2 years of recent ICU experience
  • PhD/BS/BSN of an accredited nursing program or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) Seasonal PRN coordinates patient care delivery using the BSWH nursing professional practice model. The RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops individualized plans of care, and evaluates patient response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients, uses nursing process, and delegates interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies.

  • Systems Thinking – Uses resources for problem‑solving for patients, family, and staff.
  • Professionalism – Participates in shared governance and ongoing professional growth.
Key Success Factors
  • Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and hospital policies governing nursing care.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disease management, medication effects, and adverse reactions.
  • Knowledge of nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to observe changes in patient condition and communicate to staff and physicians.
  • Ability to provide age‑specific, patient‑centered care and modify plans accordingly.
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, email.
