Nursing Associate

The Nursing Associate is a key member of the multidisciplinary team within the GP Practice, delivering high-quality, person-centred care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or GP.

Therole bridges the gap between a Healthcare Assistant and a Registered Nurse,contributing to clinical care, health promotion, chronic disease management,immunisation programmes, and practice-wide quality improvement initiatives. The Nursing Associate works within their scope of practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code.

The Nursing Associate will:

• Undertake andrecord clinical observations including blood pressure, pulse, temperature,oxygen saturation, height, weight, BMI and urinalysis.
• Performvenepuncture, capillary blood sampling and other diagnostic procedures.
• Carry outECGs.
• Deliver woundcare including dressings, suture removal and basic wound assessment.
• Administerinjections as delegated and within scope of practice.
• Supportchronic disease monitoring (e.g. asthma, COPD, diabetes, hypertension) under supervision.
• Support patients with long-term conditions, including those with complex needssuch as dementia and mental health conditions.
• Undertake NHSHealth Checks.
• Carry outcervical cytology (if trained and competent).
• Administervaccinations and immunisations under Patient Group Directions (PGDs) or Patient Specific Directions (PSDs), including childhood immunisations (ifappropriately trained and assessed as competent).
• Undertake home visits for housebound patients for annual reviews, vaccinations and monitoring as delegated.
• Recognise and respond appropriately to deteriorating patients or safeguarding concerns.

Pelham Medical Practice provides NHS GP services to a registered patient population and operates across two sites in Gravesend. The clinical team includes GP partners, salaried GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, and allied roles such as clinical pharmacists and mental health practitioners.
