Volunteer Mentor – Communities & Education Division
Make a real difference in your community by supporting individuals on probation to rebuild their lives. As a Resettlement Support Volunteer, you'll offer one‑to‑one guidance to men over 18 helping with literacy, housing, budgeting, employment, and social reintegration.
We are looking for reliable, empathetic volunteers with strong communication skills, basic IT knowledge, and a non‑judgmental attitude. You will be a positive role model, respecting confidentiality and empowering participants to make informed choices.
Applicants must be 18+ and substance free for six months if applicable. Previous experience with the Criminal Justice System is welcomed.
Key Responsibilities- Support participants with housing needs such as budgeting or searching for properties.
- Help participants explore employment options.
- Address issues such as social isolation.
- Assist participants to access local support agencies.
- Work with participants who have been victims of crime themselves.
- Increase their sense of self‑worth.
- Support reintegration into the community.
Participants will receive background information and any associated risk information.
Skills and Experience- Effective listening and communication skills.
- Reliability to keep commitments and appointments.
- Initiative to identify and access relevant resources.
- Ability to share information appropriately within confidentiality boundaries and maintain a professional relationship.
- Good role model through pro‑social modelling.
- Non‑judgmental, open‑minded and inclusive.
- Basic IT skills.
- Ability to encourage and allow people to make their own choices and decisions.
Participants will receive comprehensive background information and risk data. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required.
