Description and requirements

At Skanska, we’re shaping the way we live, work and connect. As one of the world’s largest construction and development companies, we work together with customers, communities and partners to shape a better society.

We are looking for a Assistant Design Manager to join our team at the Lower Thames Crossing project where we’re delivering preliminary works for the Kent Roads section — 6 km of new road, Europe’s widest green bridge, a public park and 12 miles of pathways.

This landmark project will pioneer low‑carbon construction techniques while creating local jobs, boosting skills and connecting communities across Kent and Essex via the UK’s longest road tunnel.

As the Assistant Design Manager, you will:
  • Support management of key packages of design work which may include bridge structures, viaducts and retaining walls, highways, technology, drainage and utilities.
  • Manage design interfaces between Skanska and other Delivery Partners.
  • Manage design in line with the Design Management Plan.
  • Monitor design maturity and provide support to the commercial teams.
  • Work closely with the Construction team and key suppliers to provide constructability input and guidance to the designers.
We are looking for:
  • Experience of working on a major multi-disciplinary project.
  • Experience of reviewing and navigating 3D models and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in the use of information management tools such as Project Wise, BC and SharePoint.
  • Degree level qualification and preferably working towards being a Chartered Engineer.
What we offer:
  • 24/7 digital GP service for you and your family
  • Financial wellbeing and employee assistance
  • Professional development
  • Enhanced family benefits (including maternity, paternity, dependants and parental bereavement leave)
