Salary Range: $19.75 - $22.75 per hour
The OJT Medical Assistant Trainee role is designed for Certified Nursing Assistants who complete an internal, structured On-the-Job Training (OJT) Medical Assistant Program as part of their development to become a Certified Medical Assistant. Under supervision of licensed nursing staff and providers, the OJT Medical Assistant Trainee provides both direct patient care and clinical support in accordance with organizational policy and competency validation and commits to becoming fully certified within 1 year & 3 months from hire.

OJT Medical Assistant Trainee
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare exam rooms for patient visit, ensuring cleanliness, supplies and equipment readiness.
- Perform patient intake including vital signs, pain assessment, medication and allergy review and document visit information accurately in EMR. Conduct screenings such as SDOH, PHQ 2&9, tobacco use and when appropriate fall risk assessment, AUDIT and GAD-7.
- May perform clinical skills & procedures once competency is assessed.
- Perform point-of-care testing as approved (e.g., glucose, HgbA1c, rapid strep, flu, covid, urinalysis, pregnancy test and others per policy).
- Perform ear lavage, nebulizer treatments, and peak flow testing as delegated.
- Perform EKG and prepare specimens for laboratory processing.
- Conduct specimen collection and prepare for lab processing (urines, swabs, capillary blood).
- Assist providers with examinations and in office procedures, chaperone sensitive exams per protocol.
- Change/update service profiles to accommodate providers scheduling needs; answer, screen, and route outside calls as necessary; supply information to callers and record messages; perform clerical duties as requested; communicate with outside agencies as directed by provider.
- Assist with referrals, med refills, and authorizations under nursing/provider guidance.
- Answer patient calls/messages to ensure timely response to their issues/inquiries; pre-register patient at time of appointment scheduling; accurately obtain information to ensure patient is appropriately triaged per protocol; ensure follow up booking required by patient care plan; cross train to provide backup patient services and reception duties.
- Engage in population health activities (e.g., outreach calls, quality measures support, reminder calls).
- Maintain competency validation records and participate in ongoing training.
- Identify abnormal findings and elevate promptly to nursing/provider.
