Summary

Research Associate is a full-time position at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER). Research Associates collaborate with AIER's Research Team on new and ongoing research projects, producing AIER's content, and delivering educational programs.

Duties

The Research Associate should have excellent research skills, both quantitative and qualitative, and a demonstrated ability in writing and oral presentation. The Research Associate will work on literature reviews, data collection and analysis, drafting of articles and reports, and the many miscellaneous questions that arise during AIER's research. The Research Associate should have experience working on research projects and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to support AIER’s research mission.

The Research Associate will work on short‑ and long‑term projects, including writing for the AIER website, articles for academic publication, research reports, conference presentations, and other projects of the research team.

Student Programs

This position involves the operation of the Student Internship and Graduate‑Fellowship programs ies include supervising undergraduate research projects, managing the delivery of the academic curriculum, lecturing within that curriculum, facilitating reading discussions and workshops, and providing direct onsite mentoring to program participants.

Independent Research

The Research Associate will conduct independent research and writing projects that align with AIER’s mission under the supervision of the Faculty.

Location

Great Barrington, MA with travel to conferences and events as needed.

Requirements
  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Economics, PPE (Politics, Philosophy, and Economics) or a closely related field (preferably direct post‑graduate economics training)
  • Intellectual curiosity, a love of economics, and a desire to continually learn
  • Skills and demonstrated ability to manage and engage with student participants
  • Skill and demonstrated ability in researching and writing for both academic and popular‑press forums.
  • Basic/intermediate skills in Excel
  • Basic skills in STATA, or another statistical package, or willingness to learn
  • High work ethic and the ability to drive forward a product and process without micro‑management
  • Excellent digital communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrable team management skills (strongly preferred)
  • An understanding of the classical liberal scholarly tradition and ideas, particularly as it pertains to economic questions

  • Cooperative spirit in working with a small team, communication with research project leaders as well as a direct supervisor
  • Ability to work independently and propose ideas to improve projects

Pay Range

$60,486 - $73,000 annual salary depending on experience.
