General Statement

The director of information technology at Great Falls College is responsible for leading the planning, development, and implementation of technology initiatives across the institution. The director of IT will collaborate with various stakeholders to align technology solutions with the college’s goals and objectives. This position works in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment, ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources to achieve the institution’s educational goals and improve overall performance.

This position has a functional reporting line to the Montana State University chief information officer and an administrative reporting line to the executive director of technology & operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership by developing and executing a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with the college’s mission and goals.
  • Oversee IT infrastructure, systems, and services to ensure reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with administrative departments and the four-campus community to identify technological needs and implement system-wide solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and best practices, and implement robust security measures to protect data and systems.

  • Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree in another field with substantial experience leading IT organizations.
  • At least 5 years of progressive responsibility in planning and managing IT systems.

  • Experience managing IT budgets and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams across the institution.
  • Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  • Master’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience working in higher education or academic institutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage organizational change.
  • Industry-standard certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator, Azure Administrator, CCNP, CNE, GIAC, CISSP).
