About

The Role

The Borough of Great Yarmouth is about to launch a new Selective Licensing Scheme and is looking for motivated and enthusiastic officers to deliver a comprehensive private sector housing inspection and enforcement programme.

Ideally, you will be a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner with experience of private sector housing inspections and enforcement under the Housing Act 2004 and related legislation. However, we would also like to hear from applicants with a suitable surveying or housing qualification who would be prepared to undertake further training to achieve the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Officers (CIEH) Advanced Professional Certificate in the Private Rented Sector (APC-Housing).

Great Yarmouth is a great place to live and work. Tourism and leisure play an important role in the local economy, from Great Yarmouth’s bustling Golden Mile seafront packed with amusements, attractions and restaurants, to the beautiful countryside dotted with windmills and access to the Broads National Park, with riverside pubs and tearooms.

However, there are also significant problems associated with poor housing conditions and high deprivation. We have a clear focus on improving the lives of our residents and maximising economic prosperity and a safe and a healthy privately rented sector is crucial to achieve this. Our new selective licensing scheme is therefore an essential part of our plan for the borough.

If you are ready for your next challenge, you want to work somewhere where you can make a real difference to the Borough, we would love to hear from you.

Closing date:
Sunday 1st March 2026
