Ward Nurse – Gynaecology, ENT & General Surgery
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Ward Nurse to join our team at James Paget NHS Trust, supporting weekend service delivery within a high‑quality clinical environment. This role offers the opportunity to provide essential patient care alongside theatre services, working across specialties including general surgery, ENT, and gynaecology.
Responsibilities- Deliver day‑to‑day nursing care for patients following gynaecology, ENT, and general surgery procedures.
- Monitor and record vital signs, recognising and escalating any signs of deterioration.
- Manage wound care, drains, and dressings relevant to each specialty.
- Administer medications, including pain relief, antibiotics, and IV therapies.
- Support post‑operative recovery, including mobility, nutrition, and personal care.
- Observe for complications (bleeding in gynae, airway or swallowing issues in ENT, infection in general surgery).
- Provide patient education on recovery, wound care, and discharge instructions.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, therapists, and discharge coordinators.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in line with NHS standards.
- Ensure infection prevention and control measures are followed at all times.
Weekends (Saturday & Sunday, rotational shifts). Mid shift: 11:00 – 19:00, with support for early and late rotations.
Person Specification- Registered Nurse (NMC registered).
- Experience working on surgical or acute hospital wards.
- Strong clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with in NHS settings (desirable).
- Knowledge of perioperative patient pathways (desirable).
- Flexibility to support varying shift patterns (desirable).
£300 per weekend shift (PAYE).
Additional Information- Weekend‑only role with rotational shift patterns.
- No travel or accommodation allowance provided; accommodation may be available at £30 per night.
- Compliance requirements include , documentation, and mandatory e‑learning prior to start.
