Ophthalmology Outpatient Nurse

To provide care in the ophthalmic speciality including; providing information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers, and to act as a resource to the multi-professional team., Manage staff in the absence of the Department manager. Participate in the induction/training of all newstaff.

Assist in nurse led clinics. Ocular angiography, Retinal, Glaucoma and Intravitreal Injection lists.

• To be responsible for a nurse led clinic performing procedures as required ie lacrimal washout
• To prepare and administer drugs
• To give specialist advice to patients and relatives
• To liaise With General Practitioners and other members of the multi-disciplinary team manager.
• To cover outreach clinics when required
• Deal with patient relative enquires on telephone /SOS system and help in emergency Triage service
• To act as a patients advocate through effective support and information enabling them to make choices and decisions concerning present and future treatment
