The Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Engineering Technician 1G grade G1 position in the Building Permit Processing Unit Division.
This is a temporary position that is limited to a maximum of 1000 working hours.
the PositionThis is an entry-level to full performance para-professional Engineering Technician position in the Permit Processing Unit where work is performed in the office. The application of engineering skill is required to assist higher level paraprofessionals orreally professional engineers by providing skills and technical work in support of County-wide adgang engineering and planning projects. Assignments are performed under close supervision of a higher-level Engineering Technician, III and the Permit Center Manager.
The incumbent is responsible for pre-screening application, plan screening, plans coordination, assist customers with technical guidance in the Virtual Permit Center (VPC), problem resolution and information gathering to assist customers through the plans review and permitting process.
The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control construction before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise DPIE. The Mission of DPIE is to promote economic development in Prince George’s County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.
Responsibilities- Pre-screens permit applications for building construction projects.
- Performs all project coordination and project administrator tasks on ePlan/Project Dox system including plans screening of residential and commercial building plan submissions for completeness prior to submission of an application for permits.
- Checks applications and workflows.
- Monitors e-Plan cases submitted and ensures submittals are organized and reviewed according to date received.
- Coordinates collation, stamping and release of approved plans for permit issuance; verifies that all reviews and approvals are appropriately recorded in our electronic permitting systems.
- Graduation from high school or GED, including or supplemented by courses in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
- One (1) year of para-professional engineering work.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
- Experience coordinating with other permitting agencies to acquire or issue permits.
- Experience with the process/modeling/design changes and re-engineering.
- Experience with electronic permitting systems.
- Experience with database tools, creating and executing reports.
- Experience with processing bonds and coordinating the release of bonds.
- Ability to effectively speak and present in a public forum.
