We’re hiring a Litigation Paralegal to support a senior trial attorney and ensure cases progress smoothly from filing through trial and dispersals. You’ll work alongside a seasoned paralegal team handling 20–30 active Circuit Court cases, with exposure to matters in Maryland, D.C., and federal court. This role is best suited for someone independent, proactive, and comfortable managing high expectations while keeping attorneys on track.
What you’ll do:
- Case Documentation and Drafting: Drafting, reviewing, and amending pleadings, discovery documents, and motions while preparing and organizing evidence, exhibits, and trial binders for hearings and court proceedings. Supporting attorneys with pre-trial documents such as witness lists, jury instructions, and proposed orders.
- Discovery and Evidence Management: Managing the discovery process by propounding and answering discovery, coordinating IMEs, working with experts, issuing subpoenas, and handling records requests. Organizing and summarizing medical records and evidence to support case development and trial readiness.
- Docket and Court Preparation: Tracking deadlines, hearings, mediations, and trial dates with precision while coordinating depositions, witness preparation, and trial logistics to ensure comprehensive support throughout the litigation process.
- Client Support and Communication: Preparing clients for depositions and trials, maintaining consistent communication to keep them updated on case progress, and gathering required documents to ensure they are well-prepared and informed.
- Administrative and Operational Support: Maintaining organized digital and physical case files, assisting with post-trial dispersals and settlement documentation, and supporting office operations by answering phones, scheduling appointments, and handling clerical tasks as needed.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience: Litigation paralegal background preferred with hands-on work in Maryland, D.C., or federal matters (at least one forum required)
- Ownership: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage a high-volume docket independently
- Communication: Clear and professional with attorneys, clients, experts, and the courts
- Personality: Team player who thrives under pressure and can “manage up” by ensuring attorneys sign off and act quickly
- Tech skills: Comfortable with law firm software for calendaring, e-filing, and document management
- Growth mindset: Quick learner, adaptable, and eager to take on responsibility
