Overview

We are seeking a compassionate PRN Psychiatric & Family Nurse Practitioner to join our team! Specialized programming designed to meet the unique needs of veterans and first responders is also offered in select facilities.

Responsibilities

The Family and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides medical and mental health services to patients admitted to ARS facilities and throughout treatment within the continuum of care. The role supports and follows facility policies, rules, regulations and State/Federal standards. Working effectively with the facility leadership team, the Nurse Practitioner will:

  • Provide excellent medical care in line with ARS philosophy, establishing rapport, gathering data, determining readiness for treatment, and applying accepted diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders.
  • Screen for co‑occurring primary mental health issues, substance use disorders, psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, withdrawal symptoms, nutrition deficiencies, pain, and danger to self or others using evidence‑based assessment tools (CSSRS, PHQ‑9).
  • Assess medication interactions, detoxification protocols, and prescribe medications appropriately.
  • Use the electronic health record for all required documentation, ensuring compliance with company policies, state regulation, Joint Commission standards, and timely authentication (e.g., psychiatric evaluations, physical examinations, medical progress notes, discharge summaries, medication orders, allergies, diagnoses, lab interpretations, HIV/STD results).
  • Understand ASAM criteria and Medical Needs Criteria, documenting decision making and treatment planning.
  • Provide on‑call services, maintaining contact and backup numbers, and be responsive within one hour of the facility when on call.
Other Tasks With The Medical Director
  • Develop cost‑effective methods to provide medically necessary therapeutic services.
  • Assist in formulating and supporting the highest standards of patient care.
  • Review all levels of care changes and provide peer reviews when required.
  • Provide support to Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants and students as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety, infection control and other guidelines.
  • For non‑exempt positions, clock in at designated times.
  • Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Master’s Program with a Family Nurse Practitioner or higher and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner degree.
  • Experience in Addiction Medicine / Primary Behavioral Health preferred.
  • Familiarity with JCAHO and other healthcare standards preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASAM criteria preferred.
  • Proficient in continuous quality improvement and performance improvement team philosophy.
  • Strong communication skills and self‑motivated.
  • Licensed Nurse with Master’s Degree or higher to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the applicable state.
  • DEA authorization to prescribe controlled medications, including eight hours of opioid treatment education; training on Buprenorphine prescribed as required.
  • Protocol agreements with the NP and Medical Director as required by state regulations.
