Responsibilities
  • Plan, assess and implement nursing care based on sound nursing judgments to meet patient needs. Provide professional nursing care for physician's office patients following established standards and practices. Work collaboratively with physicians and staff in the delivery of patient care. Continue to expand clinical knowledge and skills. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children’s National policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrate professional accountability and develop RN relationships within the community, focusing on health and well-being of the community at large.
Work Schedule

Our ideal candidate should be available to work primarily on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Upper Marlboro practice. Weekday work hours vary between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., depending on the day. There is a Saturday shift (4 hours, morning only) one to two Saturdays per month in the Waldorf practice.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education – BSN; graduate from an approved school of nursing. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Required).
  • Minimum Work Experience – 5 years in a clinical setting (Required).
  • 3 years in a medical office (Preferred).
Accountabilities and Professional Practice
  • Professional Practice
    • Participate in Shared Leadership.
    • Contribute to Children’s National’s MAGNET Journey.
    • Ensure nursing practice is based on evidence of best practice.
    • Participate in the Division of Nursing’s Performance Improvement process at the division or unit level.
    • Participate in community activities.
    • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Patient Assessment
    • Identify patient/family concerns based on data collection and assessment; determine acuity level (routine, urgent or emergent).
    • Recommend care for the patient over the phone or in person as appropriate; document the condition and have it reviewed by a physician; arrange for appropriate medical attention as needed.
  • Patient Services
    • Provide independent clinical assistance with the patient/family, including explaining procedures.
    • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per physician’s orders (e.g., EKGs, lab work, throat cultures, catheterization, etc.).
    • Perform radiological films as requested by the provider and maintain certification requirements.
    • Perform venipuncture and complete lab paperwork; document as required.
    • Observe, record and report patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to the physician.
    • Ensure abnormal results are reviewed by physicians and communicate with patient/family as authorized; monitor abnormal results for appropriate follow-up.
  • Quality Control
    • Maintain adequate control of patient charts and perform quality control/quality assurance activities as mandated by managed care insurers.
    • Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA and other regulatory bodies.
  • Recording and Reporting
    • Compile and condense technical and statistical data for reports and records.
