The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non‑residential services for youth aged 10 to 21. DYS operates fifteen secure facilities and partners with private providers statewide to deliver juvenile detention, commitment, parole, and youth parole services. Position OverviewThis is a temporary position open to residents and non‑residents of Colorado. The posting is open until filled or until 12/1/2026, whichever comes first. All applications will be reviewed as they come in.
Description of the JobWorks with State Teacher I’s and the Principal to determine classroom needs and provide additional support. Responsibilities include covering classes, substituting as needed, and supporting students—especially those in special education—during guided class work or computer‑based work. The role involves informing the Principal of testing commitments and implementing safety procedures in a safe, trauma‑informed setting.
Key duties involve maintaining a secure testing environment, proctoring MAP and state‑mandated tests, creating and communicating testing schedules, and monitoring test results. Entry of testing data into spreadsheets and reports for MTSS, MDT, and IEP meetings is required. The candidate will also assist in treatment team data sharing and monitor attendance and grades, reporting to the Principal and DYS Education Director.
Duties- Classroom supervision in the absence of a teacher.
- Troubleshoot MAP test issues.
- Determine when MTSS data is needed for reports.
- Determine what information reports are requesting.
- Assess the level of support each student may need.
- Inform the Principal of testing commitments.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
Substitutions:
- Two years of study at an accredited institution (48 semester hours) can substitute for the degree.
- High‑school diploma or GED required if using tutoring knowledge as a substitution.
- Bilingual (Spanish or other)
- Minimum age 21, no felony convictions or domestic violence history.
- Full background and reference check required; travel may be necessary for training.
- Continued employment contingent on completion of DYS Pre‑service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO), and mandatory annual training.
- All applicants must complete the Diana Screen® sexual risk screening tool.
- Former State employees who were diplomatically terminated or resigned must disclose prior termination information on the application.
All applications will be reviewed on a full‑time basis (40 hrs per week). Part‑time work experience will be prorated. Employers will not review cover letters or resumes during the minimum qualification screening; applicants must document all work experience on the online application.
