Civil EngineerPosition Overview
The Civil Engineer will plan, design, and manage public infrastructure and capital improvement projects (CIP). This role involves technical expertise, project oversight, and coordination with city departments, contractors, and consultants. The position supports city standards enforcement and aims for efficient delivery of public works projects while mentoring junior engineers.
Minimum Requirements Civil Engineer I- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Agricultural, or Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related field. - Experience:
0-2 years of relevant experience. - Certification:
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. - License:
Valid driver’s license.
- Includes Civil Engineer I requirements, plus:
- Experience:
2-4 years of relevant experience. - Certification:
Colorado Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within one year.
- Includes Civil Engineer II requirements, plus:
- Experience:
4-6 years of relevant experience. - Certification:
Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in Colorado.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Supervisory experience and experience with public sector projects.
- Extensive experience with GIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling, and ArcGIS Pro.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and municipal infrastructure standards.
- Expertise in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and regulatory compliance.
- Advanced use of engineering software (GIS, AutoCAD, SW Modeling Software).
- Effective communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and teams.
- Strategic thinking and innovative process improvement skills.
- Storm Water Projects:
- Assist in the review, design, and management of storm water capital improvement projects.
- Maintain knowledge of environmental engineering principles.
- GIS Coordination:
- Coordinate with the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) program for mapping properties, boundaries, and storm water infrastructure.
- Documentation and Review:
- Coordinate the review of construction drawings, as-built drawings, subdivision plats, development agreements, easement documents, hydraulic reports, drainage reports, geotechnical reports, pavement design reports, and traffic impact studies for new developments, technical boards, and utility companies.
- Technical Research and Advice:
- Perform technical research, develop and evaluate design and cost‑saving alternatives.
- Prepare informative written review comments and provide reliable engineering advice.
- Communication and Assistance:
- Respond to requests for information and engineering assistance from City departments, developers, consultants, and the public concerning development-related engineering issues.
- City Ordinances and Standards:
- Assist in developing or updating City ordinances, design criteria, and standards.
- Project Budgeting and Reporting:
- Prepare and monitor assigned capital improvement project budgets.
- Provide monthly reporting, including written updates.
- Record Maintenance and Other Duties:
- Maintain City engineering records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Public Works and Utilities:
- Possess thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles for municipal public works, emphasizing design and construction of streets, drainage, and traffic improvements.
