BAKERY/CAKE DECORATOR – Kroger Mountain View Foods

Provide outstanding customer service in our bakery department, creating a welcoming environment while ensuring safety, cleanliness, and quality. Assist the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and uphold the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

• Serve as a welcoming point for customers, answering product questions and making product recommendations.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of all bakery products, using that knowledge to advise customers and promote sales.
• Prepare and bake bakery items—including wedding cakes—using proper equipment and following food‑safety guidelines.
• Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other items according to customer requests.
• Check product quality and freshness, reviewing sell‑by dates and taking appropriate action.
• Operate bakery equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and ovens according to company guidelines.
• Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
• Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Navigate store layout to locate products when requested by customers, staying current on promotions and special ads.
• Monitor inventory and report any discrepancies.
• Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
• Follow merchandising, labor control, expense, and loss‑prevention procedures.
• Support and reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Inspect equipment regularly and report items needing repair.
• Report any safety risks, incidents, or illegal activity to management.
• Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum

• Any retail experience.
• Any bakery/cake‑decorating experience.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Knowledge of basic math.
• Effective communication skills.

Desired

• Proficiency in a second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
