Assistant Store Manager at Ross Stores, Inc. – Join our team of 2,200 stores across the country!

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $18.66 – $26.49. Total compensation includes bonuses, benefits, and additional incentives.

General Purpose

Manage and supervise all assigned store operations, following policies related to customers, associates, and merchandising. In the absence of the Store Manager, lead the entire operation to ensure standards and best practices are met.

Essential Functions
  • General Operating Requirements
    • Lead company best practices to maximize productivity.
    • Analyze store reports to evaluate controllable expenses and performance.
    • Communicate variances to the Store Manager.
    • Ensure proper scheduling of associates.
    • Comply with all state, local, and federal regulations.
    • Accept special assignments as directed by Leadership.
    • Handle payroll administration, including punch edits and reporting.
  • Organizational Development
    • Recruit, hire, train, and develop non‑exempt associates.
    • Ensure compliance with personnel policies.
    • Assist with associate relations issues.
  • Expense Control
    • Manage and monitor expenditures to stay within budget.
    • Control payroll hours and adjust to business trends.
  • Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment
    • Prioritize safety and model safe behaviors.
    • Train associates in emergency procedures.
    • Adhere to safety policies.
    • Facilitate monthly safety meetings.
  • Customer Service
    • Treat customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
    • Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism.
    • Execute customer service and merchandise presentation programs.
    • Coach retail associates in efficient, friendly service.
  • Personal and Store Brand
    • Represent and support the company brand.
    • Maintain professional appearance per dress code.
    • Ensure store environment is clean, neat, and easy to shop.
    • Maintain high housekeeping standards.
  • Merchandise Processing and In‑Store Marketing
    • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet standards.
    • Present merchandise per guidelines.
    • Manage merchandise processing to sales floor on time.
  • Loss Prevention
    • Train associates in loss prevention and store shortage goals.
    • Maintain integrity and honesty in all interactions.
    • Safeguard confidential information and merchandise.
    • Maintain loss prevention awareness program and store loss prevention role.
    • Assist in annual inventory process.
    • Monitor out‑of‑stock policy and PVM system.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • Two or more years of store or assistant store manager experience in a retail environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, and communicate positively at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, give direction and follow through to completion.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
  • Maintain high quality customer service.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Basic mathematical calculations used in retail environments.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use store equipment, including PDTs, registers, PC.
  • Spend up to 100% of time standing, walking, moving around store.
  • Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, stoop.
  • Occasionally push, pull, lift more than 25 lbs.
  • Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, other supplies.
  • Certain assignments may require other qualifications and skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct supervision of all non‑exempt associates.
