Job Summary: The City of Greeley is seeking an Equipment Operator II to join the Construction Crew as part of the Transmission & Distribution team in the Water and Sewer Department. The Equipment Operator II is a key member of the construction crew, responsible for operating heavy machinery and participating in various construction and repair projects within the Water & Sewer utilities department.
The role involves assisting repair crews, coordinating construction tasks, and operating specialized equipment.
- High School diploma or equivalent (to be eligible to take Colorado Water certifications).
- Valid unrestricted Colorado driving license with a good record.
- Current Class B CDL required with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months.
- Class 1 Distribution Operator Certification required.
- Ability to obtain Class 4 Distribution Operators Certification within 3 years.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in utility or water construction methods and water systems.
- At least one (1) year of equipment operation experience.
- Ability to use computers and software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, City Works, Oracle, ArcGIS, and Adobe.
- Must be available and able to commit to being on-call as part of a rotational schedule.
- Must be willing to respond to after‑hour emergencies within 45 minutes, even if not on call.
- A combination of education, experience, licensure, and certifications that demonstrates the ability to perform the job responsibilities may be considered by the hiring authority.
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license
- Specialized training beyond high school normally gained in a program of less than 18 months duration.
- Class 4 Water Distribution License preferred.
- At least Three (3) years of experience with water operations and maintenance.
- At least Three (3) years of experience in a construction related field.
- One (1) year of experience with ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps.
- Knowledge of utility locating.
- 6 to 12 months of trades experience including concrete, carpentry, and asphalt placement.
- Previous Team Leader experience preferred.
- General knowledge of construction practices, city standards, and safety procedures.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of software and equipment operations, including heavy machinery like Backhoe, Dump Truck, and excavators.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Computer skills, including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), City Works, Adobe, and the ability to learn new software and systems.
- Leadership and decision‑making abilities, with a focus on problem‑solving in variable situations.
- Capability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining effectiveness.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems including pump stations, satellite controllers, checking and repairing sprinkler heads and underground pipe.
- Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
- Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to facilitate interaction, communication, and teamwork between others.
