The Park Maintenance Technician II performs landscape maintenance at City park facilities.
Minimum Requirements- High school diploma
- Experience operating hand and power tools, light trucks, tractors, used in the field of park / athletic field maintenance.
- Two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance.
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Supervisory experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Knowledge and experience in the upkeep and maintenance of parks including landscaping knowledge and sprinkler systems.
- Basic math skills to lay out soccer / football fields and base placement for baseball / softball at athletic facilities.
- Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards and only limited standardization, and have the decision-making ability to achieve the required job results while adhering to specified, acceptable standards, alternatives, and technical practices.
- Ability to use required safety equipment and take proper safety precautions, anticipate unsafe circumstances, and act accordingly to prevent accidents.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and general public.
- Experience handling difficult situations using tact, patience, and good judgment.
- Ability to work various weekends and holidays.
- Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently, as well as with others.
- Ability to follow established safety policies and practices.
- Perform general upkeep and cleaning of park facilities.
- Perform landscape maintenance including, but not limited to, mowing, watering, pruning, weed control, etc.
- Install, repair, and maintain irrigation equipment.
- Install, repair, and maintain various types of playground equipment.
- Install, repair, and maintain other parks-related equipment including, but not limited to, lighting, security cameras, etc.
- Lay sod.
- Set up and tear down event-specific equipment and facilities.
- Perform maintenance and safety inspections of parks facilities.
- Operate and perform minor maintenance on power equipment used in park maintenance.
- Apply pesticides, weed killer, and other chemical agents following safety protocol.
- Maintain supplies and equipment for ball fields and surrounding facilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Work outside with exposure to all weather elements.
- Exposure to chemicals for weed and grass control.
- Manual labor, prolonged standing, kneeling, bending and walking, climbing ladders and stairs.
- Ability to lift / move up to 80-100 pounds.
- Ability to lift arm above shoulder level and to move objects.
- Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools.
- Vision to perform listed functions and to read printed instructions.
