Job Overview
Highway Maintenance Specialist – Hudson at the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Base pay: $2,053.85 biweekly ($53,400 annually) with a $1,000 monthly housing stipend. Annualized hourly rate: $25.67, overtime $38.50.
Responsibilities- Plow snow and maintain roadways.
- Operate heavy equipment: tandem dump truck, loader, tractor–mower.
- Mow grass and weeds; remove debris, rock, mud, and deceased animals.
- Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt; dig ditches.
- Install and repair guardrail, highway markers, signs, and lighting.
- Fill potholes, cracks, and apply pavement markings/striping.
- Set out traffic control signs and cones.
- Remove and cover graffiti.
- Stop or slow traffic during emergencies.
- Maintain equipment, perform minor repairs, and follow safety guidance.
- Minimum of 2 years physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.
- Valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes.
- Must pass pre‑employment screening, drug test, and DOT physical.
- Candidate must be willing to work on call, shift work, overtime, and weekends/holidays.
- Preferred: strong commitment to safety, teamwork, problem solving, and desire to learn new equipment.
- Personal protective equipment and uniform supply.
- Full payment for CDL physical after first year; partial reimbursement for CDL renewal.
- CPR and first‑aid training; career development opportunities.
- 40‑hour work weeks with overtime during weather emergencies.
- 4‑day schedule (10‑hour days Monday‑Thursday) during typical summer months.

- Exposure to loud noise, fumes, odors, dust, and chemicals.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of chemicals.
- Work near high‑speed traffic and at elevations up to 12,000 feet.
- Use of ladders, scissor lifts, and heavy travel vehicles.
- On‑call duties outside regular hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be physically able to work extreme temperatures.
