OverviewJoin CDOT’s Highway Maintenance Apprenticeship Program in Greeley. Two years of paid mentorship, classroom and hands‑on training to prepare you for a career in public safety. Full benefits and guaranteed 40‑hour work weeks. No previous experience or education required.
What You Will Do- Install pavement markings and striping
- Install and repair guardrail, highway markers, signage and lighting
- Plow snow and remove debris from roads, culverts, tunnels
- Operate heavy equipment (tandem dump truck, loader, tractor‑mower, etc.)
- Mow grass and weeds, shovel gravel, sand, concrete, asphalt
- Dig ditches, fill potholes and cracks
- Set out traffic control signs and cones, stop or slow traffic in emergencies
- Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs
- Follow safety guidance and wear proper protective gear

- Age 18 or older
- Current, valid driver’s license for Colorado
- Obtain a Commercial Driving Permit and a Class A or B CDL within 12 months of hire; pass DOT drug test and physical
- Pass pre‑employment screening (social security trace, criminal, educational, driving records; may include controlled substance test)
- On‑call and shift work (rotating, nights, weekends, holidays)
- Must be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures and at elevations up to 12,000 ft; use of PPE required; occasional travel within 30 min of work site
- Demonstrated success with duties listed above
- Integrity, strong work ethic, safety commitment, desire to learn
- Comfortable working outdoors, physically demanding work, pride in job
- Adaptability, teamwork, clear communication, customer service orientation, problem‑solving
- Experience operating heavy equipment (dump truck, loader, bulldozer, backhoe)
- Experience with hand tools and basic computer skills
- Previous state service experience in related duties (adds years)
