Job Summary
Unleash potential and joy in each child by helping them build memories, skills, values and lasting friendships in a safe environment. You will care for and guide children ages 5-12 while engaging them in a safe, fun and educational recreational experience. Lead and support youth development through creative program planning and role modeling of the Y’s character development values while building strong relationships with the entire family.
- Before School Program runs 6:45-9:00 am
- After School Program runs 2:30-6:00 pm
- Establish positive rapport with children, parents, program staff, school/site administrators and other staff
- Cooperate and coordinate with site staff to plan, supervise, and implement program activities
- Interact and participate in all activities with children (indoor, outdoor, field trips, sports, crafts, study, free time)
- Model leadership and the Y’s character development values in all interactions
- Maintain a professional appearance and create a warm, respectful environment for all children
- Keep parents informed of upcoming program events
- Support SACC staff and ensure program objectives are carried out
- Maintain equipment, supplies, snack inventories, and the appearance and cleanliness of the program space
- Ensure safety and proper supervision; serve as first responder for injuries or emergencies
- Maintain children’s records/files and designated medications and first aid supplies
- Ensure licensing requirements are met and required forms are completed (e.g., fire/safety checklist, medical log, accident forms, sign in/out sheets)
- Implement and maintain the YMCA discipline program aligned with the Y’s values
- Attend all staff meetings/in-services and required licensing training
- Encourage respect for personal property and YMCA facilities
- Follow facility protocols to ensure safety for staff and children
- Adhere to boundaries with staff and children; complete abuse risk management training; report concerns and follow mandated reporting requirements
- Ensure secure signing in/out and that only authorized adults are allowed on site
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Documented at least 320 hours of experience working with school-age children in a licensed setting
- Combination of non-credit, department-approved, and credit-based courses; at least one broad-based course
- Mature with good communication skills; able to relate to children, parents, and staff
- Ability to lead other staff in delivering high-quality School-Age Childcare
- CPR and First Aid certification required within the first 60 days of employment (training provided)
- Health examination within the specified window confirming fitness to work with children
- Ability to lift 10 pounds and move equipment; participate in active child-related activities
- As First Responder, ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, move quickly, and lift up to 30 pounds
