Special Education Visually Impaired Teacher (3 Year Retention Bonus!)
The Green Bay Area Public School District is accepting applicants for the Visually Impaired Teaching position for the school year. Applicants who are qualified and interested in this educational area are encouraged to submit their application materials, including a resume, letters of recommendation, transcripts, and a cover letter.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specially designed academic instruction and strategies to meet goals and objectives contained in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Collaborate with parents and classroom teachers to monitor the impact of the visual impairment on student educational progress.
- Conduct classroom observations to evaluate student needs in accessing the general curriculum, learning media (reading and writing modes), and understanding the expanded core curriculum for individuals with visual impairments.
- Create an environment that provides appropriate access to the general curriculum for students with visual impairments. Monitor for the provision of quality, comprehensive instruction to students in the Least Restrictive Environment.
- Utilize specialized materials, equipment, and assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments and prepare for the integration of assistive and instructional technology to meet a student’s individual needs.
- Review and implement results of visual assessments.
- Schedule meetings and collaborate with team members involved in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Provide ongoing professional learning opportunities and support to District staff that are part of a student’s educational team regarding the characteristics and impact of the visual impairment, along with demonstrating effective strategies to create a learning environment that meets the needs of visually impaired students.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction certification as Teacher of the Visually Impaired or the ability to obtain the license.
- Instruction in functional vision evaluations and an understanding of the implications of the visual impairment on education and curricular needs of the child.
- Experience working with students in the areas of disability awareness, self-advocacy, accessing information, expanded core curriculum for children with visual impairments, and orientation and mobility.
- Knowledge of braille desired.
