Position Summary

The Sonographer performs OB and GYN ultrasound exams under the direction of OB/GYN providers, ensuring accurate imaging, patient safety, and clear communication of diagnostic findings to interpreting physicians.

Core Responsibilities
  • Perform gynecological and obstetric ultrasound exams
  • Identify and differentiate normal vs. pathological findings
  • Review patient history, orders, labs, and clinical documentation
  • Position patients and select appropriate transducers and settings
  • Label, document, and archive images accurately
  • Enter exam data and billing codes into RIS
  • Communicate findings clearly to physicians
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and departmental standards
  • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety at all times
  • Identify equipment issues and elevate appropriately
Required Certifications
  • ARDMS – OB/GYN (must obtain within 3 months if not already held)
  • ARDMS – Abdomen (must obtain within 3 months if required by leadership)
Required Skills & Experience
  • Strong competency in OB and GYN ultrasound procedures
  • Excellent anatomical recognition and image acquisition skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple exams
  • Strong patient communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and safety protocols
  • Comfortable adapting to varying schedules and clinic flow
