Job Summary

A Pre/Post-PACU RN Supervisor in an ambulatory surgery center is responsible for leading the nursing team to ensure safe and efficient patient care in the pre-operative and post-anesthesia recovery phases. Key duties include staff supervision and scheduling, patient flow management, clinical oversight, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, staff education, and serving as a liaison between physicians and other departments. This role also involves administrative tasks such as performance evaluations, staff schedules, inventory management, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.

you will do
  • Performs full range of leadership responsibilities which include, but is not limited to, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and development of employees; managing performance and any performance issues; planning, assigning, and directing work; encouraging innovation, teamwork, fiscal responsibility, high-quality work, and a positive/productive work environment. Front line management and problem solving of staffing gaps, scheduling, and performance concerns.
  • Provide and oversee high-quality nursing care across Pre-op and PACU from admission through discharge, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to anesthesia recovery and discharge criteria.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation and order management in EPIC, including consents, order entry, chart reviews, post‑op calls, and maintenance of order sets and discharge materials.
  • Coordinate patient flow and case progression by serving as a key liaison with physicians and communicating effectively with interdisciplinary departments.
  • Assess patient needs using preadmission history, scheduled procedures, and physician preferences; develop and implement individualized plans of care based on nursing assessment and standards of practice.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient responses, perform clinical interventions (e.g., IV initiation), and function effectively in emergency or high‑stress situations while applying infection control practices.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, department metrics, and performance improvement initiatives while supporting a productive and respectful work environment.
  • Perform patient education and post‑operative follow‑up to ensure understanding of procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
Education Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited and approved Nursing program Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Preferred
Experience Qualifications
  • 2 years working experience within a healthcare setting Required
  • 1-3 years leadership experience Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding the different types of anesthesia and the effects of anesthetic agents and sedatives is critical. Nurses also need to be familiar with the various surgical procedures to anticipate potential complications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medications used during and after surgery including analgesics, sedatives and reversal agents.
  • In‑depth understanding of the human body’s systems, with a particular focus on how surgery and anesthesia can affect the cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological systems.
  • Knowledge of ASC policies and procedures, and national patient safety goals, as well as an understanding of quality improvement processes.
  • The ability to quickly and accurately assess a patient’s condition, including vital signs, airway patency, pain level, and neurological status.
  • Proficiency in initiating and managing intravenous therapy, including medication and blood product administration.
