High School Coaching Positions (Assistant Coach – Head Coach) for Junior Varsity & VarsityThe Green Bay Area Public School District is seeking passionate, student-centered coaches to join our high school athletic programs. We currently have openings ranging from Assistant Coach to Head Coach at the Junior Varsity and Varsity levels. These positions offer an opportunity to positively impact student-athletes through leadership, mentorship, and high-quality athletic instruction while supporting their academic and personal growth.
At GBAPS, athletics are an extension of the educational experience. Our coaches play a critical role in developing character, sportsmanship, teamwork, resilience, and pride in our schools and community.
Position OverviewSuccessful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to:
- Developing student-athletes both athletically and academically
- Promoting sportsmanship, integrity, and respect
- Building a positive, inclusive, and competitive program culture
- Partnering with families, staff, and the broader school community
A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate or possess:
- Coaching experience in softball or the assigned sport that has demonstrated success for student-athletes
- A clearly articulated coaching and learning philosophy
, including perspectives on: - The role of athletics in education
- Winning and losing
- Competition, teamwork, and athlete development
- School and community engagement
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- The ability to develop and lead summer opportunities that support ongoing athlete growth and skill development
- Strong planning and organizational skills related to scheduling, budgeting, and transportation
, in collaboration with the Head Coach and Director of Athletics & Activities - A collaborative mindset that supports all student-athletes within the program and maximizes both academic and athletic potential
- The ability to support and initiate Booster Club engagement
, including membership growth and fundraising efforts
Coaches are expected to:
- Teach and model the rules of good sportsmanship
- Govern the program in full compliance with WIAA rules and regulations
- Monitor and protect the physical well-being of all athletes before, during, and after practices and competitions
- Enforce all eligibility rules and regulations governing interscholastic athletics
- Maintain knowledge of sport-specific rules and clearly communicate participation expectations to athletes
- Ensure proper care, use, and accountability of equipment and facilities
- Maintain accurate participation records and submit award recommendations to the Athletic Director at the end of the season
- Assign lockers when applicable and ensure locker room cleanliness and safety
- Provide direct, visible supervision of locker rooms before and after practices and contests
- Attend all required coaching staff meetings
- Understand and follow legal standards related to negligence and liability
- Demonstrate loyalty and support to fellow coaches, student-athletes, and established athletic policies
- Verify that all athletes are academically, medically, and behaviorally eligible to participate
- Oversee injury reporting and treatment procedures and secure physician approval prior to an athlete’s return following a serious injury
- Ensure athletes access the training room only under direct coach supervision
- Direct, supervise, and instruct all athletic activities and assigned personnel
- Coordinate responsibilities with the Athletic Director and/or Building Administrator
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach
Assistant Coaches will assume all responsibilities of the Head Coach in their absence.
QualificationsRequired:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and collaboration skills
- DPI Licensed Teacher
- Successful experience as a classroom teacher
- Serve in a district that values whole-child development
- Work within a supportive athletic and educational community
