Overview- Provide Safety Leadership to ensure business area is aligned with corporate safety vision and initiatives.
- Model the highest standards for health and safety.
- Foster involvement by helping to create a culture in which safety is valued and rigorously managed.
- Consultant to line organization to own and implement safety systems to achieve the objective of an injury-free workplace.
- Develop and influence the line organization to successfully implement safety programs and accomplish milestones and goals.
- Accountable for ensuring plants have processes that ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, etc. regulations; oversight for ensuring that we are collecting required data, etc.
- Partners with area and union to ensure all employees, including safety committeemen, are adequately trained and coached to perform their roles.
- Leverage knowledge (via co-audits, participation in investigations, data analysis, etc.) to spot trends and improve safety and raise awareness.
- Maintain a high level of awareness and provides skills required by all employees to manage safety.
- Technical expert on regulatory and company standards, regulations and policies.
- Provide leadership and direction to the line organization in establishing standards and provide information about how well the standards are working.
- Driver of improvements to systems and processes.
- Key leader in the Central Safety process.
- Facilitates key safety training and development.
- Provide support or oversight for and/or lead a safety engineering or Industrial Hygiene Project.
- Activities:
- Advisor to management with implementing safety practices and maintaining employee interest and awareness in safety and health matters.
- Work with management and safety committeemen to identify potential safety problems and solutions.
- Provide information and analysis regarding how well company safety performance is matching standards and objectives.
- Ensure that information about safety is communicated, understood, and that it flows from management to employees and from employees to management.
- Conduct observations, teach to observe, work with the line organization to design and carry out an observations program, compile and analyze information collected in observations, and communicate the results of the analysis to the line organization.
- Interface/negotiate with regulatory agencies on safety and health issues.
- Provide support to maintain and ensure compliance with regulations, laws, and corporate standards, including ISO.
- Assist with Genesis Alkali audit and inspections for hazard conditions and validate implementation.
- Work with the line organization to create a framework for conducting effective investigations, participate in investigations as needed, and ensure the communication of investigation results.
- Help the line organization to identify training needs, serve as a resource for training, and ensure that the training is adequate to meet the objectives of the safety program for all personnel, whether salary, hourly, or technical.
- Provide safety support for businesses during normal operations and outages.
- Participate in weekend and off-shift safety coverage to assist injured employees at the hospital and facilitate immediate reporting to regulatory agency and management.
- Assist with and support emergency response efforts.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to line organization on how to manage ergonomics related issues and make needed changes.
- Research and evaluate new personal protective equipment (PPE) and tool opportunities, demands for potential products, and customer needs and insights.
- Assistance with Auditing as needed.
- Chair, lead, and drive continuous improvement in assigned program(s) of responsibility.
- Other assignments as necessary to meet department goals and objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, engineering or other 4-year degree with applicable Safety and Health experience, and
- Ability to sit for and pass nationally accredited professional certification exam(s) in the safety and health field.
- OR
- 7-10 years experience in mining, manufacturing or heavy industry with significant safety responsibility.
- Wyoming State Mine Foreman/Examiner papers preferred
