Green Valley Recreation is hiring a Chief Financial Officer to join our executive team and serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board. The CFO leads all financial operations for a large, community-focused nonprofit that serves more than 23,000 members across 17 recreation centers. This role provides steady financial leadership, clear reporting, and strong stewardship of the organization’s resources to support long‑term sustainability.

The CFO oversees accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, investments, audit, and risk management, and leads a capable finance team. Essential Job Functions
  • Provide strategic financial leadership as a key member of the Executive Team, supporting long‑range planning, organizational priorities, and Board relations.
  • Advise the CEO and Board of Directors on financial trends, risks, and opportunities to support strong decision‑making.
  • Partner with the Board’s Fiscal Affairs Committee by preparing reports, presenting financial updates, and supporting governance responsibilities.
  • Lead all financial and accounting operations, including general ledger, reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial controls.
  • Direct treasury functions, including cash flow management, banking relationships, and oversight of investments in line with Board‑approved policies.
  • Manage, analyze, and report the financial performance of the organization.
  • Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Lead the development of the annual operating and capital budgets in partnership with the CEO and leadership team.
  • Oversee long‑range capital planning, reserve studies, and financial modeling to support major maintenance and replacement needs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of tax filings and obligations.
  • Facilitate the annual external audit and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local financial rules and regulations.
  • Monitor fixed assets and maintain records supporting acquisition, disposal, and depreciation.
  • Develop and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures that support consistency, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Oversee risk management programs, including insurance, internal controls, and loss prevention.
  • Coordinate with HR to ensure accurate payroll processing, benefit cost allocations, and related financial reporting.
  • Lead, support, and develop the Finance team to maintain high standards of accuracy, service, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to understand business drivers, provide clear financial information, and improve cross‑department processes.
  • Identify and implement financial systems, tools, and practices that improve reporting, efficiency, and data integrity.
Ancillary Job Functions
  • Prepare communications to the CEO for distribution to Board of Directors, Committees and other groups, as directed.
  • Serve as staff liaison to various committees, as requested and/or directed.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • Ten or more years of progressive experience in nonprofit, public‑sector, or member‑serving financial leadership
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, and long‑range financial planning
  • Experience with capital budgeting, reserve studies, or major maintenance planning
  • Experience with investments, treasury, or cash flow management
  • Experience managing audits, compliance, internal controls, and risk management
