Job Description The Big Picture

The Evangelical Free Church of Green Valley (EFCGV) in Green Valley, Arizona is seeking a full-time Pastor of Congregational Care to serve alongside Lead Pastor Carl Lodico. Green Valley is a senior retirement community in the Santa Cruz Valley south of Tucson, and the church is a growing, elder-governed EFCA congregation with many winter visitors, both contemporary and traditional services, strong global and local missions support, church planting, God-centered Bible teaching, and many lay-led ministries.

The people describe themselves as a loving and warm church that feels like family, mature in faith, financially responsible, and highly involved in the community.

The church values Bible-centered preaching and teaching, God-centered worship, Christ-centered ministry, Holy Spirit-empowered service, people-focused ministry, community, the power of prayer, and God's global mission. They envision a church that shares the Good News with the tens of thousands of residents of the Santa Cruz Valley, disciples people to spiritual maturity, equips every believer for ministry, spends at least 50% of its budget on others locally and globally, and serves as a haven for winter visitors.

The Pastor of Congregational Care provides spiritual leadership and pastoral support to the congregation by overseeing a comprehensive care ministry: shepherding individuals and families through seasons of illness, grief, relationship challenges, and spiritual struggle with biblically grounded encouragement, confidential biblical counseling, and a compassionate presence. The church would prefer a candidate in the 45–65 age range.

  • Agrees with the EFCA Statement of Faith and the Mission Goals of EFCGV.
  • Maturing disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Thorough and practical knowledge of the Bible and theology.
  • Ordained by, or willing to pursue ordination with, the Evangelical Free Church of America.
  • Has a passion for serving the senior community and Hispanic culture.
Qualifications – Education/Experience
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in religious studies or a seminary degree is required (or equivalent theological training).
  • 3–5 years of ministry experience in pastoral care and/or congregational care.
  • Theological competence and sound pastoral judgment.
  • Leadership ability to oversee programs, volunteers, and ministry direction.
  • Strong communication skills for preaching, teaching, and counseling.
  • Compassionate, servant-hearted character, marked by empathy and reliability.
  • Shepherding, mentoring, and equipping.
  • Ability to develop organizational structure in assigned ministry areas.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the ministry responsible for visiting the sick, hospitalized individuals, and shut-ins.
  • Provide emotional and spiritual encouragement during times of need.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers serving within the visitation ministry.
  • Offer direct visitation during critical moments involving heightened emotional stress or health-related concerns.
Ministry Development
  • Oversee and support existing pastoral care ministries serving the congregation.
  • Lead the development of new congregational care teams or ministries based on identified needs.
  • Encourage effective structure, oversight, and sustainable volunteer leadership.
  • Partner with the Lead Pastor to assess and respond to evolving congregational care needs.
  • Coordinate care efforts with support groups (e.g., Grief Share), small groups, and other congregational care ministries.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating care pathways…
