The Programmer Analyst II will support NASA scientists under the ATMOS contract by contributing to scientific software development and evaluation of model or experimental datasets. This role bridges software programming with Earth science research, ensuring data accuracy and usability for scientific publications and conferences.
ATMOS is a NASA support services contract that provides advanced scientific, engineering, and technical expertise to enable Earth and space science missions. The program supports research, data analysis, technology development, and mission operations across multiple NASA centers. Through ATMOS, our teams deliver innovative solutions that help advance NASA’s mission and expand scientific discovery.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, test, and optimize scientific software and algorithms.
- Process large scientific datasets for visualization and analysis.
- Support the presentation of results at scientific conferences and in journals.
- Work closely with NASA scientists to ensure coding solutions align with mission needs.

- At least 2 years of professional or academic experience in scientific programming.
- Proficiency with FORTRAN, C/C++, Java, and/or Python.
- Familiarity with MPI, high-performance computing, and MATLAB/IDL.
- Strong background in atmospheric or Earth sciences preferred.
- M.S. in atmospheric science, physical science, mathematics, or computer science, or
- B.S. degree in one of the listed disciplines, plus three years of experience relevant to the position. This experience is in addition to the experience required for the position level.
